Wooloomooloo: Hitting the bull’s eye with its steak and accompaniments

Excuse me, but I found some angel hair in my pasta…
Me to my mum in law (who was my dining companion): “This will probably be better than the one I made last month, and if so, please don’t say anything. It’s only because they have better beef stock, being a steakhouse and all”
Sirloin medium rare, roasted garlic mash and mushroom jus, watercress, and peppercorn sauce
Banana cake served warm with a goldilocks (not too big/small; it was obviously cold) scoop of ice cream
Mille feuille with blood orange topping

Wooloomooloo is that sort of trusted old school steakhouse that isn’t going to let you down with some pretentious new age take on steak. Don’t get me wrong- the place is modern, energetic, well lit (mostly natural light coming from the Padang; and you can’t beat a view like that!). But it executes the steakhouse basics beautifully. We went with the lunch set which was excellent value for money at SG$48++ (it’s restaurant week here in Singapore), but I cannot wait to return and try their creamed spinach and more buttered onion bread (amongst others), the latter of which I gobbled down hungrily forgetting completely to document it in a photograph. Also the service was impeccable. So Wooloos, please continue doing what you do so well! We all need that sense of reliability and familiarity in a world of chaos and uncertainty.
