Angus: A Japanese take on steak, done well

Crab cake on a mini pancake. Nothing to shout about
Very decent cream of mushroom soup
Who doesn’t love wafu (a shoyu vinaigrette) dressing on a fresh salad? And alfalfa sprouts?
The highlight of the meal. Medium rare tenderloin topped with foie gras and a shiitake mushroom. The herb butter on a slice of lime was sinful and refreshing all at once, and the sauce added a umami tanginess to the vegetable accompaniments. A lovely orchestra of tastes.
The mango sorbet was surprisingly good. A simple yet satisfying way to finish off the meal

I love it when I drop by an oldie but goodie restaurant like Angus Steak House, only to discover that so little has changed over the years. It’s been around for more than a decade. Exact same spot, same self-playing piano, same smiling faces that comprise its staff, same familiar dishes on the menu. This is a Japanese styled steak place with a signature sauce in all its steaks, plus a generous dollop of herb butter resting atop a thin slice of lime and all of it served on a hot plate. Why fix something if it ain’t broke? They have a winning formula, which is why people like me will happily return and pay good money for a predictably satisfying meal (their steak set dinner starts from SGD 80+ before tax).
