Reflections on my first overseas trip since the C word

In this post, I deviate from my usual content on this blog, which as you may have guessed is food-related, to a couple of musings and realisations I discovered unexpectedly whilst having my end of day shower.

Principally, I am glad that we as a young family of four, decided to bite the bullet and fly to London for a three-week holiday.

Don’t get me wrong. There were initial moments of doubt, all focussed on the “what ifs”. What if we caught covid? What if we spread it to my aging in-laws? What if they went into lockdown there? What if we tested positive and couldn’t return?

In hindsight though, it was worth braving all those uncertainties. In fact, I’d venture so far as to say that notwithstanding the risk of catching the big O (Omnicron), the need for me to have regained and restored my mental health far outweighed this risk.

It was refreshing and necessary for me to have stepped outside my comfort zone, embraced the unfamiliar, and to gain a fresh and different perspective to the virus and what it means for us to live with endemic COVID.

Here’s to much more international travel fun in 2022. Be well, all.
